Almeria city is Andalucia's most eastern capital with a population of 200.000.
It has drastically changed in the last few years with its growth as a major holiday area. Almeria holds a great deal of charm and is steeped in history.
It is located at the foot of a mountain range which is crowned by the magnificent Alcazaba, an Arab fortress built by the Caliph of Cordoba.
Almeria is also well-known for its restaurants and local cuisine. Many good restaurants and bars can be found around the Puerta de Purchena at the end of Paseo de Almeria.
In the old town of Almeria you can find many good bars and cafes near to the town hall.

Aguadulce is 1 mile to the west of Almeria city, Aquadulce is the oldest local resort, over the last 75 years it has developed from a small fishing village to the present day a very popular tourist destination.
The Aquadulce beach resort is one of the busiest in Almeria which has a great quantity of recreational offers for tourists.
The beach is two miles long and averages thirty yards wide, it has a blue flag and is situated 6 miles to the west of Almeria city, the nearest airport is that of Almeria at just 9 miles and the commercial port of Almeria nearby.
Aguadulce has attracted many visitors who come to enjoy the fantastic climate and complete tourist facilities. There is a good selection of shops, bars and restaurants, in the evening you could relax by taking a stroll on the promenade or sampling the varied night life.
The marine offers a wide variety of water sports and there is a good shopping centre, several fish restaurants and the night life of the town.
There is a bus service to Almería and the international airport of Almeria is a further 5 miles west. |

Roquetas de Mar is at the south-east corner of Spain. The resort is mostly flat and backed by rugged mountains of the Sierra de Gador, part of the Sierra Nevada range. Due to this sheltered position rainfall is very scarce and this is one of the driest regions in Europe. The beach is a 2 mile long straight stretch of coarse silver sand that is never crowded.
There is a smart 18-hole golf course Club de Golf Playa Serena.There are three other courses, La Envia Golf, Alboran golf and the golf of Almerimar, are also with easy reach.
For birdwatchers visit the salt marsh at Las Marinas, 3 miles south to see flamingos, little egrets and avocets. There are indoor amusements at the Gran Plaza shopping centre. Gran Plaza is a large modern shopping centre with 125 shops a multi-screen cinema with dedicated English-language screens, a bowling alley, an amusement arcade, restaurants and cafes.
On Thursday there is an open-air market and every fortnight there is a local market in the town.
A good selection of restaurants to suit all tastes. Choices includes fish, pizza, Chinese and dining on tapas (local specialities served up in small dishes) it is a great way to start the evening.

Almerimar is a small modern town with a large marina and yachting club.
The town is situated 30 minutes drive to the west of Almeria city.
There are many restaurants, bars, shops and a good nightlife.
Fishing is popular with the locals due to the large quanties of tuna in the local waters.
The 27-hole golf course designed by Gary Player is a relatively flat course with broad fairways and greens. It is very picturesque with many palm trees, lakes and sea views.The beach in Almerimar is quiet, with golden sand, calm and clean water, which is often warmer than the air. The beach stretches along several miles. Sailing, wind surfing, snorkelling and scuba diving are available here all year round.The average temperature in the summer is 25ºC and in the winter is 12ºC. It is one of the few resorts where the rainfall is scarce.

Laujar de Andarax facing the arid Sierra de Gádor in the Sierra Nevada foothills. Láujar de Andarax occupies a hillside position at 920m, backed by rocky peaks and dense pine forest, with stunning views over the fertile river plain of the Río Andarax.
Today, Láujar is the largest village in the protected Sierra Nevada National Park with a population of 1,000. It makes a good base for exploring the area and the mountains of the national park itself, Plaza Mayor is presided over by the town hall housed in an elegant 18th-century building. Next to the this is a fine fountain, the Fuente de los Cuatro Caños, dating from the late 18th century and one of several dotted around the village.
About half a mile from the village is a beautiful picnic spot the source of the Andarax river, there you will find a bar, picnic benches and barbecue pits in a woodland of poplars, willows, ash trees and pines with some excellent walks leading off from the river, alternatively you can take a road up to the mountains above the village where there are some magnificent views and walks through the forest.
Try some of Láujar´s locally produced wine in one of the village bars or visit the bodega Valle de Láujar.
There is a daily bus service to Almeria, less than one hour to Almeria International airport.

Berja is a busy farming town.It sits in a valley with the mountains of the Sierra Nevada providing a dramatic backdrop.
Properties in Berja are largely restricted to traditional townhouses with a number of villas on the outskirts of the town.
There is a bustling daily market where much of the locally grown fruit, olives and vegetables can be found.
Berja is only 15 minute’s drive from the small port of Adra and the beaches of the Costa Almeria.
There is much evidence of the area’s Moorish and Roman past. Just 3 kilometres from the town there can be found the remains of a Roman Amphitheatre as well as Moorish fortifications built to protect the town from coastal invasions.
On Mondays there is an open-air market where you can purchase all the fresh fruit and vegatables grown in the area.
Berja is within one hours drive to the international airport of Almeria, which will be drastically reduced once the new motorway linking Berja to the A7 motorway at El Ejido is completed in 2010. |

Adra is the western most coastal town of Almeria and is known as the port and gateway of the Alpujarra. Rich in history, it is the oldest municipality of all the provinces of Almeria. Adra was founded by the Pheonicians in the 8th century BC and later inhabited by Carthaginians, Romans and Arabs. Adra was once a fortified city protected by a small castle which sadly no longer remains, fragments of the town walls can still be found. A walk down Calle Natalio Rivas is very enjoyable. The road crosses the town and was home to many of the grand houses that were once the splendour of Adra. Nowadays the ground floors of these buildings have been converted into shops forming one of the commercial areas of the town. Other interesting places are the port and the beaches of Adra. The fishing port, built in 1911 is home to daily fish auctions held at dawn. The town has many excellent fish restaurants and is famous throughout the area for the size and quality of tapa's served in local bars. Adra has 5 miles of virgin beaches and the three major beaches close to the town have been granted Blue Flag status in recognition of there water quality. Nearby, close to the mouth of the River Adra is the Nature Reserve of the Albuferas de Adra, a protected wetland, where a huge diversity of birds, fish and reptiles co-exist. Albuñol is 6km from the Mediterranean coastline of La Rabita. The area has a great climate with mild winters and very warm summers.
The town has numerous supermarkets, banks, post office, town hall, police station, 24hr medical centre, tapas bars and excellent schools.
The local fruit and vegetable farming and fishing products here are particularly good value at the local markets.
Albuñol is nestled between the Contraviesa Mountains and the Mediterranean Sea.
The population of around 6,000 residents allows Albuñol to contain a good mix of bars and restaurants. Albuñol is perfect for rest and relaxation. Those seeking a peaceful Spanish town will be delighted.
Albuñol has a very important wine tradition. On its hills and slopes the "Costa" wines are cultivated. They are of singular flavour and strong in alcohol. Some of the sausages are very well known, like the black puddings and the chorizos.

La Rabita is enclosed in a rocky creek situated on the east of the Costa Tropical coastline. Situated close to Los Moriscos golf course and Sierra Nevada ski resort, yet offering a very traditionally Spanish holiday resort atmosphere with the superb climate it is the perfect place to be. The Promenade is a wonderful place to take a stroll by day or night. La Rabita hosts several activities. There are many fairs, festivals and circus's that visit the village, the whole year round. You can find several beach bars/restaurants, coupled with a number of friendly local bars in the town centre. There are several supermarkets, banks, newsagents, gift shop, doctors, chemists, fresh fish markets and a meat market. There is an all year round outdoor market on a Friday. In approximately 30 minutes drive from La Rabita there are two 18 hole golf courses, water parks, the beautiful Las Alpujarra's, and Mini-Hollywood. At Granada the famous Alhambra, and the Sierra Nevada ski resort are about 1 hour away.

Albondón is situated in the southern slope of the La Contraviesa Mountain range. On the hill of the Encina, from this town of the Alpujarra an impressive horizon of vineyards and almond trees descends towards to the Mediterranean coast on the south-west slopes of the Sierra Nevada.
It is a thriving village with a population of just over 1,000 people. There are shops, banks, post office, community swimming pool, restaurant, and numerous bars where you can sample the local tapas and buy the local Alpujarra wine.
The layout of its streets and the architecture of its white houses maintain the Islamic air of its origins. To these attractions it is necessary to add the existence of numerous cortijos that make the area a place of great tourist interest.
A few kilometres from the Mediterranean Sea, Albondón offers to the visitor the possibility of enjoying the mountain as much as the beach and within one hours drive to nearest international airport of Almeria. |
